Pickleague Privacy Policy

Last updated 21 October 2026

Pickleague is a pickleball league app: you record matches, run leagues and tournaments, and track a rating. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the iOS and Android apps and the website at pickleague.club.

What we collect

DataWhyWhen
Email address and password To create and secure your account. Passwords are hashed by our auth provider; we never see them. At sign-up
Name, username, avatar, tagline, paddle, home court Your public profile, shown to other players in your leagues. When you enter it
Match results, ratings, standings, in-app pickle balance The core function of the app — standings, ratings, and history. When matches are recorded
Precise location

To show courts near you when you search, to offer you a check-in when you are at a court, and to confirm you are at a court when you check in or start a play session there. A check-in you make yourself stores the court, the time, and the one location fix that confirmed it (your coordinates, their accuracy, and the distance to the court); we never record a route or follow you between courts.

While Pickleague is open (the app or the website), and only if you have already allowed location, it reads your location about once a minute and sends it to one server function that looks for a court you are at, for check-in prompts (like the other check-in prompts, they stay silent while you are using Pickleague). Those coordinates are used for that one lookup and are never stored or logged. Pickleague never asks for location permission to do this.

In the background, only if you allow location “Always”, your phone watches up to 20 courts with its own region monitoring: the courts you starred (at most 3) and the courts where you saved a QR code in the QR wallet. No other court is watched, and region monitoring tells Pickleague nothing until you arrive at or leave one of them. When you arrive at a starred court, your phone tells our server which court and when (no coordinates; that note is kept at most 2 hours). If you are still there a minute later, our server checks you in automatically for 2 hours. If you leave within 5 minutes of arriving, or tap Not here in that time, the check-in is stopped or taken back: it is shown to nobody and counts for nothing. That no longer applies once you confirmed it with Check in now or extended it, and Not here after 5 minutes checks you out instead. An automatic check-in stores no location fix, only the court and the time, and earns no rewards until your phone's own location fix confirms you at that court. It starts only after you have chosen who sees you at the courts, and it shows you there like any other check-in (see the next row). Pickleague never checks you out automatically: when you leave while still checked in it can remind you to check out, and otherwise the check-in ends on its own. Where it doesn't check you in automatically, it only sends a check-in prompt. At a court with a saved QR code, your phone offers that code; at one you haven't starred, nothing is sent unless you tap Check in. Each check-in prompt leaves a note of the court and the time, deleted after 2 days, so one court prompts you at most once every 30 minutes.

Change or turn this off in Settings → Check-in automation (“Notice me at starred courts”, “Check me in when I arrive”, a switch for each starred court, and “Prompt me near other courts”, off by default), in the QR wallet (“Show these codes when I arrive”), or by not allowing location “Always”. Who sees your check-ins follows your setting (see the next row). Check-ins are deleted after 180 days.

When you search for courts, check in, or start a session at a court; about once a minute while Pickleague is open, if you already allowed location; in the background only if you allow location “Always”; always with your permission
Court check-ins and play sessions So you, and the people you choose, can see who is playing at a court. A check-in records the court, when you arrived and left, and how it was made (by you, from a check-in prompt, automatically when you arrived at a starred court, or by starting a play session), and whether an automatic one was taken back. A play session records its kind (open play, a drill, a match), its court, and when it started and ended. Who sees your name at a court follows Settings → Privacy → Who sees me at the courts: by default your friends and players in closed leagues you share. Everyone else sees only an anonymous “a player” in the count, blocked players never see your name, and you can pause sharing or hide from particular players. Check-ins are deleted after 180 days; play sessions stay, visible only to you, for your own history. When you check in or start a session, or when you arrive at a starred court with automatic check-in on
Routine check-ins (planned check-ins) So Pickleague can remind you and check you in at the starred courts where you play at the same time each week, and so your friends know when to find you. A routine records the court, the time and your time zone, the days, how long you plan to play, and optionally when you play in a closed group (and with which friends) or open play. Pickleague turns each routine into planned check-ins for today and tomorrow, which you can skip or move; one nobody kept is deleted 30 minutes after its time. Arriving at that court between 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after its time checks you in for as long as you planned (Settings → Check-in automation → Check me in at my routine courts), storing what any automatic check-in stores and no location fix. A check-in can also carry how long you plan to stay and when you are open to play. Who sees your routines on your profile follows Settings → Privacy → Who sees my planned check-ins: by default your friends only. Blocked players and players you hide from never see them. While you play in a closed group, a friend in it is named at the court only to players who already see that friend there by name; everyone else sees “Closed group”. Players who see you only as “a player” see just how many people there are open to play. Routines are deleted when you delete them or your account; planned check-ins are deleted after 90 days. Only when you add a routine or plan a check-in
Contacts — name and phone number So you can pick people to invite. Your address book is read on your device and is not uploaded. When you select specific people and send an invite, the name and phone number of those people only are sent to our server to create the invite link. Only when you open the contact picker and choose someone, and only with your permission
Photos you choose Your profile picture. We access only the image you pick, not your library. A QR code you save to the QR wallet stays on your phone and is never uploaded. Only when you set an avatar
Push notification token To send match, event, and tournament notifications to your device. Only if you turn push notifications on
Basic technical data IP address and request logs kept by our hosting providers for security and reliability. Automatically
First-party usage records Which screens you open and when you use the app, kept on our own servers (the same backend that holds your account) so we can understand how Pickleague is used and make it better. If you arrive through one of our own promotional links or printed QR codes, we also record the campaign code from that link — a short label we chose ourselves that says which card or poster brought you here, and nothing about you or where else you have been. We also store a random identifier in your browser or on your device so we can tell repeat visits from new ones; it is generated by chance, derived from nothing about you or your device, and clearing your site data (or deleting the app) removes it. No third-party analytics tools are involved, and none of this is ever sold or shared. Automatically

We do not collect payment information. There is nothing to buy in Pickleague: "pickles" are an in-app scorekeeping currency that can only be earned by playing, cannot be purchased, and have no cash value.

What we do not do

Who else processes your data

We use a small number of service providers, who process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

We may also disclose information if we are legally required to.

What other players can see

Pickleague is a social app, so some information is visible by design: your name, username, avatar, rating, badges, and match results are visible to other members of leagues and tournaments you join. Your email address and phone number are not shown to other players.

When you check in at a court, only the people your court setting allows see your name there (by default, your friends and players in closed leagues you share). Everyone else, including guests, sees an anonymous count. Your location fix is never shown to anyone.

Friends are mutual: a friend request shows that player your name, and they choose whether to accept. Who your friends are is visible only to you and each friend. Your friends see your name and court when you are checked in, unless you change Who sees me at the courts, pause sharing, or hide from them. Either of you can remove the friendship at any time; the other is not told.

Reporting and blocking

You can report another player, or block them, from the … button on their profile or on a drill request. A report records the reason you picked, any note you add, and a copy of the content you were looking at, so that we can still act on it if the author changes or deletes it afterwards. Reports are visible only to us, never to the person reported. We review them within 24 hours and may remove content or remove the account.

Blocking is mutual and takes effect immediately: you and that player can no longer send each other drill requests, friend requests or messages, any friendship between you ends, neither of you sees the other's name at a court, and you stop appearing in each other's partner search and friend suggestions. We store only who blocked whom. The other player is not told. You can undo it at Settings → Blocked players.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time: Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, your personal data (including your court check-ins, play sessions, and court settings), and your account credentials. Signing out ends any check-in you have open. Match records involving other players may be retained in anonymised form so that their own history and ratings remain correct.

You can also revoke location, contacts, photo, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings; the rest of the app keeps working.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists, except court check-ins, which are deleted after 180 days. When you delete your account it is removed from our live database promptly; residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a short period before those backups expire.

Children

Pickleague is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Most of this is available directly in the app; for anything else, contact us at the address below and we will respond.

Changes

If we make a material change to this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
